J.D. Salinger’s Toilet
We all read author J.D. Salenger’s “The Cather in the Rye” in school, and while a signed copy of his famed book would sound like a cool item to own, someone ended up owning something of his that’s a lot more personal. One of the strangest celebrity items that went up for sale was Salenger’s personal toilet. Rick Kohl, a North Carolina collectibles dealer, somehow managed to get the author’s toilet and put it on eBay with an insane $1 million “Buy It Now” button. Kohl promised that the toilet was not cleaned and had a letter of authenticity that the toilet came straight from Salenger’s New Hampshire home. It isn’t known if someone bought the item or not.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Breath in a Jar
Before Brangelina called it quits in 2016, the famous couple allegedly breathed into an empty jar while at a red carpet event. The seller of the jar wrote: “We are not guaranteeing this air sample contains air molecules that came in contact with any celebrity epidermal layer of respiratory system, but the sample was captured in proximity of the celebrities and air molecules that did come in direct contact.” Surprisingly, someone bought the jar for $530. This isn’t the only time someone tried to sell a celebrity’s breath. A person who attended Adele’s concert in Australia tried to sell her “breath” on eBay, but for a mere fifteen bucks.
Ronald Reagan’s Blood
One of the most controversial items ever sold on eBay was a vial of President Ronald Reagan’s blood. A hospital staff member took the blood during Reagan’s stay after John Warnock Hinckley Jr. tried to assassinate the president in 1981. The worker kept the vial of blood as a family heirloom before later deciding to sell it on the auction site. The bidding for the blood reached $10,000; however, the seller later canceled the auction after the media went into hysterics. The owner of the vial decided to donate it to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.
Niall Horan’s Half-Eaten Toast
Auctioning off celebrities’ half-eaten food is nothing new. Back in 2000, an *NSYNC superfan bought Justin Timberlake’s half-eaten breakfast for $1,025. Niall Horan from One Direction was in Australia when he was asked to eat a slice of toast with Vegemite. After taking a bite out of the bread, he spit it out and the remaining piece of toast was reportedly auctioned off for an insane $99,000. It’s unsure if anyone bought the toast, but there actually is a video of Horan trying the Vegemite toast.
Scarlett Johansson’s Used Tissue
Scarlett Johansson is one of Hollywood’s sexiest stars. In 2008, the actress appeared on the Tonight Show where she blew her nose twice into a tissue, put it in a bag and signed it. Someone quickly purchased the wad of snot for $5,300, and Johansson decided to donate the money to charity. No word on what the fan did with the tissue.
Marilyn Monroe’s Chest X-Rays
Items worn by Marilyn Monroe, and even photos of the actress, can sell for thousands of dollars. One bizarre item that is associated with the star, and which was sold for a whopping $45,000, is a chest X-ray of the 28-year-old taken in 1954. The X-ray shows the iconic star’s full ribcage, shoulders, neck and silhouette of her breasts. There are also X-rays of the star’s face dated June of 1962, which point to possible plastic surgery. These X-rays were estimated to have sold for anywhere between $20,000 and $30,000.
John Lennon’s Tooth
Anything related to the Beatles is probably worth a lot of money. One item that went up for auction was John Lennon’s tooth, which sold for about $31,000. The tooth was reportedly given to Lennon’s housekeeper who was to dispose of it, but she kept the tooth and gave it to her daughter who was a fan of the British group. While the tooth was too fragile to be tested for DNA, Omega Auction House said they didn’t doubt the authenticity of the item that came from the housekeeper.
